Invest East Yorkshire runs a network of business centres across the East Riding — managed offices and workshops on flexible, easy-in, easy-out terms. They give firms an affordable, professional place to start out or relocate, from the market towns to the Humber bank.
Taking care of business and supporting business growth in the East Riding of Yorkshire
The business centres are not a drain on the public purse — they are a net contributor, all while staying close to full.
Affordable, flexible offices and workshops in seven East Riding towns — not all of them managed centres — from a single desk to a 1,400 sq ft unit, on easy-in, easy-out terms. 223 units in all, and most close to full.
The real measure of the centres is the businesses they incubate. Some take a single desk and stay for years; others start small and grow until they need a site of their own. A few from Market Weighton and ergo:
An international freight-forwarding firm (established 2010) that moved in during 2014. It started in a single small office and, as it grew, relocated twice within the building — now running from two units. Through Brexit and COVID it added in-house import/export documentation, export packing and a same-day UK courier service, and recruits locally.
A marquee-hire company founded in 2008 by managing director Tim Betteridge, based at the centre from the very start. It now employs a team of four, recruits locally and uses regional suppliers, and came through COVID and wider pressures by investing in technology and service — today the centre's longest-standing tenant.
A specialist engineer founded in 2010 that based itself at the centre early on. It grew from one small unit into several — adding mezzanine floors — and became the UK's leading supplier of powered ambulance ramps, with around 18 patents and a 2016 Queen's Award for Enterprise. Having outgrown the space, it moved to its own larger site at Middleton on the Wolds in August 2025, posting close to 40% growth and now eyeing North America.
An independent mortgage and protection brokerage founded in March 2020 by James Green — a former professional rugby player — from a home office. Drawn to ergo in 2021 by its rolling contracts and rent-inclusive running costs, it took a small office and, over four years, scaled up three times into a 700 sq ft space. Now a team of five — three advisers and two administrators — serving Hull, the East Riding and beyond.

Beyond the balance sheet, the people who use the centres rate them highly — Google ratings have climbed across the estate, as high as 4.8 stars — and they keep coming back.
